The Jazz Band is part of the Penncrest Jazz Program, which features two big bands and a combo. Auditions for the program are held in the fall and are open to all Penncrest students. Rehearsals mercifully begin after the conclusion of the marching season. The Jazz Band rehearses once a week as an ensemble, with each section adding an additional student-run sectional once per week. The objective of the program is to develop style, improvisation, and independent playing through the study of America’s Unique Art Form. The band performs locally in concerts, festivals and competitions, and has performed and received accolades at national events such as Disney’s Performing Arts Program, the Heritage Music Festival in Boston, the North American Music Festival in Washington DC, and the TIA Atlantic Coast Jazz Championships in Wildwood, NJ. Past and current members of the band have performed and participated with the Kimmell Center Youth Jazz Orchestra, American Music Abroad Jazz Band, the Delaware County All-Star Big Band, PMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble, the Jamey Aebersold Summer Music Camp and the Berklee Summer Jazz Program. We are honored to be selected to perform at the 2015 PMEA State Conference.
